LongDescription | Change management is increasingly perceived as a permanent business function that is essential to keeping the organization agile and adaptable in a continuously changing competitive environment. To examine the expanding demands for effective change management, the Conference Board established the Three Faces of Change working group. Its focus was to study change management at three organizational levels: (1) organization, (2) department, and (3) individual. This report is based on a comprehensive survey of 72 companies, in depth interviews, and includes six case studies focusing on how companies have addressed changes. It examines what drives and does not drive change, how to prepare for and implement change, and how to overcome resistance. The report identifies key organizational, departmental, and individual competencies needed to effectively deal with change. it also discusses the human resources (HR) role in effecting change. Topics include change management as a business function, preparing for and effecting change, overcoming resistance and sustaining change, achieving success, the role of HR in change management, the future of change management, and the three faces of change management. The executive summary report provides a useful table of management roles in initiating, leading, managing, sustaining, and evaluating change efforts. It also reports on the change metrics organizations use to measure the effectiveness of their efforts. The report is available for a fee from www.conference-board.org |
