LongDescription | The article examines trends in human resource (HR) technology, the expanding use of the internet, and improvements in tools available. Most important is the acknowledgement that the future is not about employee recordkeeping or the transactional side of HR technology. It's about the strategic acquisition, deployment and use of technology to minimize costs and enhance HR's strategic value to the business. In the next few years, development of more sophisticated but easy-to-use analytical tools will be available, making it easier to access the power of the data in organizations' human resource information systems (HRIS) for analytical and business metric reporting. The author also suggests that costs should not constrain access to these tools because of new models of delivery through lease agreements and outsourcing. Business intelligence/OLAP (online analytical processing) reporting tools will enable HR data to be 'mined', analyzed, trended, and easily incorporated into key corporate metrics. These improvements will make it possible for HR leaders to easily create analytical models that demonstrate the value of HR. |
