TitleNHI Transportation Curriculum Coordination Council (TCCC)
ShortDescriptionRebuilding the highway construction task force is an industry priority as agencies across the country face a serious shortage of trained and experienced personnel, resulting from attrition and an aging workforce. At the same time, cutting-edge construction and system preservation technologies demand new skills and knowledgeable construction personnel. Consequently, efforts to train and certify highway construction personnel have intensified in recent years. The Federal Highway Administration has taken a pro-active role in this effort. In order to streamline the process and avoid duplication of efforts, the Transportation Curriculum Coordination Council was formed in September of 2000.
LongDescriptionThe Transportation Curriculum Coordination Council (TCCC) is a partnership between the Federal Highway Administration, State Departments of Transportation (DOTs), and the highway transportation industry to support the training of highway construction personnel. The TCCC's mission is to provide leadership at a national level, develop and maintain a national curriculum for various transportation disciplines, identify training and certification requirements, and coordinate/facilitate training efforts. The TCCC's website offers links to a variety of useful publications related to workforce development, notes from TCCC technical committees and training development efforts, TCCC highlighted features, information on TCCC financial support, and TCCC member organization. Of particular note are the publications linked off this website including: Core Curriculum Matrix Development: Promotes the identification of core skill competencies required of the highway transportation workforce, Partnering for a Better Transportation Workforce: How TCCC is bringing together agencies in an effort to develop curriculum that state highway agencies can use as a basis for their overall training and development programs, and Construction and Maintenance Fact Sheet - A New Approach for Construction Workforce Training and Certification.
